Why Vertical Primary Care Was Created

Many of you may already know our story, but for those who don’t, it’s one that profoundly shaped the vision and purpose behind Vertical Primary Care.

In December 2023, our family faced a life-altering event—one that changed everything. Our daughter, 8-years-old at the time, was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, and not just a mild case. It was an aggressive, life-threatening form that resulted in hospitalization, severe complications, and ultimately, the removal of two-thirds of her colon. Those were some of the hardest days of our lives, but through strength, faith, resilience, and some wonderful doctors and nurses, she pulled through. Today, she is doing well, but that journey left an undeniable imprint on my heart and priorities.

A Shift in Perspective

That experience forced me to re-evaluate what truly matters. I have always been passionate about medicine, but in those critical moments, I knew my most important role was being a mother. I wanted to be there for my daughter at her infusions, doctor’s appointments, or simply on days she wasn’t feeling her best. I also wanted to be present for my son—at 6 and 9 years old, they both need me now more than ever. Their childhood is fleeting, and every moment with them is precious.

At the same time, my passion for medicine and caring for people never faded. I love what I do. I thrive on the challenge of learning, teaching, and evolving with medicine. More than anything, I cherish the relationships I build with my patients. I didn’t want to give that up, if there was a way to still have balance.

The Birth of Vertical Primary Care

With these realizations, I envisioned a different way to practice medicine—one that allowed me to be both the best mother and the best provider I could be. I wanted to focus on preventative medicine. That meant limiting my patient panel to a select number of individuals, ensuring that each person received the attention, and care they deserved.

Working alongside Dr. Robbie Grant, we created Vertical Primary Care—a small, direct primary care practice designed to balance family, flexibility, and high-quality patient care. This practice was born out of a deep desire to serve both my family and my patients in the most intentional way possible. It is a reflection of my heart, my priorities, and my passion for medicine.

I'm excited for where this journey will take me, and I'm grateful for every moment that I have to provide for my family and to provide for my patients. To those who have entrusted me with your care—thank you. Your trust means the world, and I am honored to walk alongside you on your health journey.
